Coat Hanger

This was taken in Pyrmont, near Darling Harbour. Because I live on the north side of the Harbour Bridge, I don't usually see the bridge from this angle. Sydneysiders are notorious for thinking that the Harbour Bridge is particularly ugly and refer to it as 'the Coat Hanger'.

NZ Tranquility

Life has been hectic between HRH's school and dance activities and things at work so I've dug out some tranquil photos to remind me of what else life can look like. This one is from the south island of New Zealand.

Cathedral

Most people don't see St Mary's from this point of view.

Things are Looking Up

When they built the Westin Hotel and Macquarie Bank offices at the old GPO, they kept part of the original sandstone structure and added in new steel and glass.

Dee Why Beach

We decided to go out for breakfast at a cafe overlooking Dee Why Beach. Typical winter morning: cold, grey, windy. I love the beach in winter.

While we shivered in the wind, the locals were having a swimming carnival at the pool.

When the water temperature is around 14 or 15, I figure that is either the age or IQ of anyone who goes out for a surf. No matter how good your wetsuit or the waves, it's gotta be cold.

Reminds me of a line from Lake Wobegone: In cold weather, all men are created equal.

Marina

On the flight between Brisbane and Sydney, there are a number of national parks and state reserves and places that simply don't have a lot of people living there. We flew over this little piece of heaven, complete with its own marina for mooring one's yacht.

Countdown

When I took this, I hadn't really looked at the value of the gate numbers, just their relative locations above the jetways. Now I realise that they don't actually count down, but that is still how I think of them.

Romance of the Lighthouse

I grew up in a town with a lighthouse on the coast and was totally indoctrinated in the mythology of the solitary lighthouse keeper. And a girl can never have too many photos of lighthouses.

Blue Skies Shining on Me

Brisbane had put on beautiful weather, except for one cloud in the midst of the most vivd blue sky you could imagine. Gotta admire it's style.

Winter Blossoms

I know that winters in Sydney are mild compared to other places, but over the weekend Brisbane put on a show of blossoms and greenery made better by a bright sun-shiny day.
