Trees Impersonate

I go out early in the mornings, sometimes before the sun has decided to make an appearance, to walk around the reserve. In the dark, the trees can look a bit unusual and, when you are thinking about something else, suddenly grab your undivided attention. This one always gives me a start ... looks like someone is going to turn and look at you ... someone very big.


And when I come around the bend and look down at this one, for just a split second I think that I've come across a big, fat kukkaburra sitting on the branch of a fallen tree. But, alas, it never is.

More Flowers

Spring is even more amazing when the flowers you see are so completely different from the ones that you grew up with.

I am no gardener, but am surrounded by people who are. These caught my eye on one of my early morning walks. Have no idea what they are but loved their colour and shape.

When I stopped to take these photos, I was dived-bombed by a couple of birds. As with most victims of senseless crime, I didn't get a good look a them. I found that the rather sharp sound of a snapping beak close to one's ear is enough to keep one moving along and not asking too many questions.

Fountain Soapers Strike!

The fountain in Martin Place is a favourite amongst Fountain Soapers. They strike whenever the spirit takes them and, from the foam running down the bricks, this one was a good one.

But, looking past such larrikin behaviour, I found some interesting images.

Balmoral Beach, not a surf beach, but delightful on a warm almost-summer day. You can just make out part of the shark nets at the top of this photo.

Thanks for putting up with this rusty gear marathon. I've saved my favourite rusty gears for last. Tomorrow will be a beach shot, for something a little bit different.

There is an old piece of equipment outside my favourite Sydney patchwork shop. As an engineer, the shapes of the gears really appeals. And the rust gives it an interesting surface texture and colour.

Added Some Bling

This is my quilt 'Red Rover, Red Rover, Let Kathryn Come Over' with lots of sequins and beads sewn on to add some sparkle and bling.

I used two different kinds of sequins -- some square ones and some holographic round ones. Added some gold beads but they weren't as metallic looking as I had hoped. Still, pretty happy with the results.

I have donated this quilt to HRH's school fete to be part of the auction so I have a chance to buy it back. I don't mind helping them raise money, just as long as I get my quilt back.

Opera House -- Take 2

Are you tired of shots of the Opera House yet?

I took this one on the ferry home one night last week. Can't wait for HRH to start high school so I can take the ferry to work every day and home every night.

With the fading light, I wasn't sure if it came out or not so quickly took another shot just as the camera battery decided to retire for the evening. Think I like the dead battery shot even better.

She's Confirmed!

On Thursday night, HRH was confirmed at Sacred Heart. Here she is with Bishop Anthony Fischer and Kathryn, her sponsor and one of her godmothers. She chose St Rose of Lima, the first American saint, as her saint so her confirmation name is Rose.

More Rain over the CBD

The drought hasn't broken but we have been getting some good rain this week. I took these from a wharf that was being tossed around by the wind and waves. Wasn't a good morning to sit outside in the front of the ferry if you wanted to stay dry.


This is my usual view of the Harbour Bridge. I have been told that there are some Sydneysiders who actually like the way the Bridge looks and that the universal distain for the Coathanger I mentioned earlier is, apparently, not universal at all.

Go figure.

Garden Surprise

One of the joys of having neighbours who are avid gardeners is that little surprises pop up in the garden out the back. I found this one this morning. Don't remember seeing it last time I wandered in the garden.
